Hyaluronidase (Hylenex) is a purified enzyme that hydrolyzes the bonds within hyaluronic acid (HA), breaking down the filler matrix and allowing the body to rapidly absorb and clear the dissolved material. The result is a controlled, targeted reversal of HA-based dermal filler.
When It Is Used
This treatment is indicated in specific clinical situations, including:
- Overfilled areas requiring volume reduction
- Filler migration beyond the intended treatment zone
- Visible asymmetry or undesirable aesthetic outcomes
- Vascular occlusion — a medical emergency requiring immediate intervention
Hyaluronidase is not offered as a routine refinement or touch-up service. It is reserved for cases where clinical correction is necessary.
Results Timeline
Dissolution begins within minutes to hours of injection. The full effect of the treatment is typically visible within 24 to 48 hours as the body completes absorption of the broken-down filler material.
Potential Side Effects
As with any injectable treatment, some side effects may occur. These can include:

Post-Treatment Guidance

Important Note
Hyaluronidase is effective only on hyaluronic acid-based fillers. It does not dissolve non-HA fillers such as calcium hydroxylapatite (Radiesse), poly-L-lactic acid (Sculptra), or permanent fillers. Cost varies depending on the area treated and the amount of product required.
