Blue Medi Spa Celebrates 27 Years!

In 1999, wrinkle relaxers were still something people whispered about, "medical spa" was a phrase most people had to have explained to them, and a historic movie theater on Ventura Blvd was about to get a very different kind of audience.

Twenty-seven years later, we're still here. Same building. Same commitment to medical oversight. A few more treatment options than we had back then (okay, a lot more).

This month, we're celebrating our anniversary, and we wanted to take a moment to share where we came from, what we've learned, and why it still shapes every consultation we do.

How did Blue Medi Spa start?

"It all started with one laser."

Blue Medi Spa opened in Sherman Oaks in 1999, founded by Ronda Nofal with a clear idea: aesthetic treatments should be held to medical standards, not spa standards.

At the time, medical spas were brand new. Many were day spas that added a few injectables to the menu. Blue was built the other way around: medicine first, then the experience around it.

Why is Blue Medi Spa in a movie theater?

Blue is located inside the La Reina Theater building, a Ventura Blvd landmark that opened as a neighborhood movie house in the 1930s.

We think it's quite fitting. Los Angeles has always been a little obsessed with faces on screen. Our job is helping people feel like the best version of their own.

What does "physician-led" mean at Blue?

It means every treatment at Blue happens under the direction of a physician. Dr. Daniel Yamini, a double board-certified plastic surgeon, has served as Blue's Medical Director since the practice opened.

Dr. Yamini oversees clinical protocols, provider training, and treatment standards. Our registered nurse injectors, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants all work within that physician-directed framework, so you get experienced hands and actual clinical judgment behind every plan.

After 27 years, that structure hasn't changed. It's the reason we've been able to grow from a handful of services to more than 30, without compromising on safety.

What have 27 years taught us about natural-looking results?

We've watched a lot of trends come and go. Overfilled lips. Cheekbones that arrived before the rest of the face. Foreheads that fully couldn't move.

Here's what's stood the test of time (so far):

• Less is usually more. The best results are the ones people notice without being able to name. We'd rather you come back for a touch-up than leave looking overdone.
• Your face moves, so your plan should account for that. Natural wrinkle relaxer results come from dosing to your muscles and expressions, not to a template.
• Skin quality matters as much as volume. Collagen stimulators, lasers, and skin boosters often do more for a refreshed look than another syringe of filler.
• A good consultation sometimes ends with "you don't need that." Saying no is necessary part of the job.

What has changed since 1999?

Almost everything about the technology. When Blue opened, the treatment menu was a fraction of what it is today. Since then we've added FDA-cleared lasers, radiofrequency microneedling, body contouring, collagen biostimulators, skin boosters, and a medical weight loss program.

What hasn't changed is our approach. Over 27 years and more than 30,000 patients, we've earned Allergan Top 25 National status, and we've done it by treating people the way we'd want our own families treated.
